FORTY EIGHT!
There had been forty eight deaths at The Ritz hotel in London. Not a substantially large amount of people, considering the fact that the hotel had been open since 1906. No, it wasn't the number of deaths that had occurred within the walls of the grand, five star hotel that was cause for concern. What was important was when they had happened. Twenty two of the deaths had been spread out over the years, ever since the hotel first opened it's doors. But, twenty six of the deaths had all occurred in the last month of business. Thirty one days in December, and twenty six deaths leaves you with a death almost every day. Naturally, the hotel staff was cast into panic, but doing everything within their power to keep the guests unaware of the problems that were happening under their very noses. Was it an epidemic? Bad food? No, the victims had all been killed in approximately the same, strange way. They were found, their blood drained with large puncture wounds on various parts of their bodies. But that was impossible, it looked as if something had actually bitten these poor people, and the only thing that could leave marks like that would be a vampire. But vampires weren't real, were they?
WRONG!
Bathsheba's coven was once the largest, strongest vampire coven in the lands. The leader, Bathsheba herself, was the first born vampire in existence, and the only vampire known to have given birth to more then one child, a testament to her power. The members of the coven were seen as royalty amongst the other vampires of the world, highly sought after and envied. Anyone who was accepted within the exclusive group was seen as a celebrity to the other covens and rogue vampires that littered the world. They had more then fifty members, all powerful and beautiful creatures, deserving of their place in the group. The coven lived happily among the humans, feeding only when necessary and in complete secret, keeping to themselves for the main part, all on Bathsheba's orders. She had been around for many, many years and knew what happened to those covens who did not bother to hide what they were from the humans. While vampires might hold some more superior strength, they do not have the numbers that the humans did. It wasn't until a group of newly turned vampires was introduced to the group, almost a decade ago, that Bathsheba experienced the wrath of humans for herself, against her own coven, her family. The vampire 'children' were sloppy in their killings and did not understand the need for keeping what they were secret. After all, what could hurt the undead? Especially if they had strength and senses that rivaled that of the humans. It wasn't long until the humans caught on to what was happening within the small town that the coven was staying in. A hundred armed towns people were much mightier then the large coven of vampires, which then looked much smaller in comparison. There was a lot of causalities for both sides, but in the end the vampires had to retreat, minus more then half the numbers they had started with.
BATHSHEBA WAS FURIOUS!
Her coven's reputation had been sullied, and many of those she held dear to her had been slaughtered in the war between her coven, and the humans. Including those of her own blood and her mate. The coven was forced into complete hiding by their leader, staying within the shadows and out of the living creatures way for years, as punishment for what had happened that horrible night. Only now were they once again allowed to roam with the humans. Bathsheba had chosen to stay within the walls of The Ritz hotel, a grand leap from the previous slums they had found themselves inhabiting. The coven, which was previously used to being treated as royalty amongst not only vampires but humans because of the riches they had accumulated over time, very much missed their old glamorous lives and were glad that they were once again allowed to join civilisation. While it had been enforced why there must be secrecy, and why they should remain careful with their killings, the vampires found it hard to control themselves. After being locked away for so long, it was hard to resist playing with the toys, when they were dangled so freely and deliciously in front of you. The guest of the hotel became their prey, and many indulged in their freedom.
HARLAN NICHOLS WAS THE HOTEL MANAGER!
He was fully aware of the mysterious happenings that were going down within his walls. But, he could just not place what was causing all these deaths. The other hotel staff had rumours, but there was no way he was going to believe such nonsense. Vampires indeed. It was his greatest wish for these murdering's to just stop, and he was determined to act as if nothing was wrong until that happened. There was no way he was going to close the hotel's doors, even though it had been suggested to him more then once. He was doing everything within his power to keep the information about the deaths out of the papers, and while no one was aware of what was happening, and the doors remained open, The Ritz hotel would continue to run as if nothing was wrong. Though, this did mean that he might have to hire some more cleaners to clear the mess.
